The design team at FOX Broadcasting invited FX WRX to help create the on-air packaging, titles, and promos for THE PASSAGE. Working with in-camera FX, the project was executed in two stages: titles elements and live action portraits.

For stage one, the team worked at FX WRX to capture in-camera FX elements and typography. Natural materials, custom glass art, and laser cut silhouettes were filmed with a motion control camera and moving light sources. Optical and practical FX were combined with miniature photography to create atmospheric moving images. 

The second stage called for a live action shoot with key talent from the show, at Pinewood Studios Atlanta. Chris and his team developed a system of moving in-camera optical elements and custom lighting rigs during extensive testing at FX WRX. They also designed a live action set with additional optical and lighting elements to add greater depth and surround the actors. The team traveled with their specialty equipment to Atlanta, where the sets and talent were assembled. The camera rig allowed the lens to float and respond to each actor’s body language while in-camera optical FX, moving light sources, and specialty lensing were all manipulated live, in the moment.

The design team at FOX Broadcasting then integrated the results from each stage of production to create a unified motion design package including on-air titles, promos, social media, and advertisements. ​​​​​
